Yup he made it, my friend and officemate, Jeff, who inspired me to get into digital painting. Click on the following link http://www.ballisticpublishing.com and see his Limited Edition cover art "Golden Bee" (Steam punk lady) right beside Linda Bergkvist's masked beauty for the hard and soft covers naman. Linda Bergkvist did concept art for The Golden Compass and is for the meantime considered as today's top digital painter... Go Jeff, see you at work :) Keep moving up...and bringing Him the glory :) as he said the minute he got the email that he was chosen by Ballistic "Oh my, I can hardly believe this, thank you, Lord, thank you, God." and to think tutor and seatmate ko siya sa trabaho, ako'y starstruck sa isang Pinoy na artist! I'd like to think of it as "underGod Logic" :)
| | I did what I could with the time I had, I'm not satisfied with the lack of embroidery, I wanted to do more, put multicolored gems even...but I didn't have enough time...plus I wasn't able to extend her shoulder on the side of the neck so it doesn't look too long, the GMT deadline was chasing me. God willingly for Exotique 4 which is in june, i'll really put more into my entry with a longer time table. I had a difficult time when I began painting only using basic brush tips in Photoshop, I must create custom brushes. I was super unhappy that when I painted umiba yung itsura nung girl...but indeed, next time I promise myself I'll do better. I wanted to fix a MILLION other things about this painting but I had to stop. With Jeff's help and God's I am able to present to you Regina, my first official digital painting entry. Please pray that I get into D' Artiste, if I do, this gets published in a book. To be shortlisted at the very least would be great, but that's not enough, we want everything, don't we?
--This is my debut as a digital painter. I entitled my first artwork "Regina" which means "queen", the 3rd part of my entire first name. I used a motif inspired by the combination of royal fashion and the celebrated elegance of the Filipina "terno", a formal gown often well-remembered for its unique butterfly sleeves and charming embroidery. Regina conveys the purity and strength of a Filipina maiden who is certain of how much she is worth.-- |
And he made it! Both of Jeff's entries submitted to Ballistic Publishing for Expose 6 http://www.ballisticpublishing.com/ made it to the final selection :) His entries were the two female characters he did that I posted. Golden Bee (steam punk lady) made it to an entire full page and the gatekeeper woman Esprilandrhu made it to a quarter page. Congrats Jeff! If I save enough to buy Expose 6 you'd better sign it ha, :P But yey I'm getting Expose 5 for my Birthday :D Angat Pinoy!!!
From Time Magazine, issue March 17. Video interview: http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1214055407/bclid1342094282/bctid1446813083 TIME.com - http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1720092,00.htmlAfter vowing to never again write about Lestat, this best seller reveals she has one more vampire novel in her. Her newest book is Christ the Lord: The Road to Cana.Q: Do you ever plan to write additional books for the Vampire Chronicles series? Anne: "When I published my first book about the Lord, I said I would never write about those characters again. But I have one more book that I would like to write. It will concern the vampire Lestat, but it will be written in a redemption framework, where he is wrestling with the existence of God. I don't see it as a violation of my promise, because I won't be writing about vampires in the old way." Q: How did you evolve from writing about vampires to writing about the life of Jesus? Anne: "It was a personal conversion. After 38 years of being an atheist, faith came back to me. I had to stop writing about vampires, because they had been a metaphor for lost souls. Instead, I made up my mind to concentrate on Jesus Christ." Q: What caused your conversion back to Christianity? Anne: "Americans like to believe we turn to religion because of an accident or the loss of a loved one, but in my case it was simply the culmination of searching. I wrestled with a lot of theological questions, and then one afternoon, I thought, I love You -- I want to go back to You." Q: What's your idea of the afterflife? Anne: "I don't think we can imagine what it is like to be fully united with God in his kingdom, but we can have great expectation and hope. I don't think it is a little angel with a harp sitting on a cloud or the barren afterlife we see in so many films. I think it is a rich and wonderful place." Q: Do you believe in vampires? Anne: "Not at all. For me, supernatural characters were a way to talk about life and reality -- vampires are the perfect metaphor for the lost soul. I am always surprised when some very young reader writes to me and asks if they are real."
Here's a little peek at something i'm working on with my friend who contributes to Ballistic http://www.ballisticpublishing.com :) I've decided that my leisure time alongside motion graphics for commercials should go to the gift God has blessed me with, the ability to create with my hands. I was unsure and afraid of making mistakes, he said "brush first without thinking...no control alt Z, stop that!" hahaha... You can check out his work in Exotique 3 and Imagine FX, his name is Jeff de Guzman, a former gourmet chef from the UK turned digital painter extraordinare. Sketched from a photo reference of me done with Photoshop and a wacom tablet, still a work in progress...something he is pushing me to complete and submit for a little something secret :) I was supposed to go home early...I got stuck :) This is why I love where I work. God is lovin me all the way...

Mom found reader's delight in something special that arrives every Friday at Fully Booked, Fort's outlet. She naturally gushed about her find and shared it with me. For P110, Financial Times Weekend, or FT's Weekend issue, provides articles by prolific authors with eye-catching colorful visuals, and a pleasing layout. The paper itself, to say the least, is a happy, blushing tinge (as seen here in its website: http://www.ft.com ) and is semi-smooth but still has that familiar, crisp rustle like other published dailies. It is a foreign paper, but its select writers obviously find relevance in the international content they produce, and that I believe spurs excellent writing in a way that is not the least bit hyphaluting. I find that it is fresh content on business, the world, art, fashion, and more made attractive enough for one's eyes to sift through. I don't mean that the paper is written in layman form. It is good, intelligent writing that isn't pretentious. Here is a sample article online about the Oscars at the mercy of the Writer's Guild strike. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/ed39daf2-cada-11dc-a960-000077b07658.htmlOf course, the Life and Arts section is our favorite. All imagery found in FT complement the fine articles found from page to page and make reading a more enjoyable experience. If only someone would produce a local paper that is this cool. One can only dream of resurrecting the Ilustrados. A paper carefully composed and as pretty as FT would get more than enough attention especially if it were written in Filipino. Are tabloids forever going to be the only local dailies deliver the country's current affairs and scoop in our native language? I hope not. I've never been an avid news junkie. Envision someone curling up with a newspaper and cup of coffee, that's not me. That's mom everyday of the week, the info junkie. I've found myself to be more of an online news junkie with books on the side. Now I can add the printed publication that is Financial Times to my long list of literary diversions and pair it on a weekend with a cup of comfy cocoa.

| | Dug this up from some old CDs! My room is an archaelogical dig at the moment...Did this when I was 14 with Photoshop 4! Hehe :P Started early...first making maps for my fiction short stories on Windows Paint, feeling Tolkien hehehe then later on moved on to Photoshop which Dad then said "They say it's a good program. Shud be good to try." Indeed it was. Extremely blessed to have a techie dad, who also tried his hand with photoshop on our pets' photos, cutting them out of the background using the wand tool and select marquees.
This character was inspired by a really good friend, who in his own way in high-school lit up the dark and dreary days for me. I actually clicked lens glare twice by accident hehe. |
| | I found a really cool digital painting tutorial on Deviant while at work and well, managed to stop drooling over what the guy had done in concept art for King Kong and said to myself "do not covet". Hahaha! A very rare moment. Decided to save what I'd finished yesterday in steps so you guys could see. A quick really rough paint job, you can see in the dog's ears I just took an hour or 2 to sit down and apply the tutorial coz I need the practice for my job. Will do more for sure and refine pa. I LOVE WHERE I'M AT! Seeing the guys here just encourages me to push and push at what I can do. I wrote descriptions for each picture apart from the caption to record my steps. |
